This is a tutorial video that looks at how to DJ with Ableton Live, demonstrated with Tom Cosm’s free DJ Megaset 1.0. It’s a deep tutorial that should offer something for just about anyone learning DJing with Ableton Live.

ZOMBY: Exclusive ‘Back to 92’ Mixtape Download
Thanks to the folks over at Dazed Digital and Zomby, I can post this ravey amazingness. Details below:

Download HERE
"In this month’s issue of Dazed, we ran a short piece on Zomby, the ‘morbid dubstepper raising rave from the grave’ with his spankingly brilliant rewiring of rave on his “Where Were U in 92?” LP, out on Werk Discs. The label’s head honcho is Darren Cunningham – a man so underground that even his own friends doubt his existence, and so militant that one of his abstract techno 12”s once declared sovereignty, we’ve nevertheless known him since he was kicking around south London with baby dreads and a naff DJ pseudonym. As such, we leant on him to provide us with an exclusive-to-Dazed-Digital super-cheery festive Zomby ‘Where Were U in 92?’ retro-‘ardcore MP3 mixtape that should make cooking the turkey that bit more fun than usual. Click here to download the mix or stream it from below."

Apple goes DRM ( Digital Rights Management) free! (on music at least)
A major victory in the campaign to eliminate DRM -- Apple, the last
major retailer of DRM-encumbered music has announced, live at
MacWorld, that iTunes music will be going DRM-free.
Of course, what this really makes clear is that this was never about
the record companies withholding DRM-free music from Apple, but rather
that Apple was unwilling to concede a tiered pricing structure to the
recording companies. In the end, anti-DRM activists -- including
yourself -- were able to educate the public enough to pressure Apple
to give in.

Japanese sub-cultures, Kabukicho (Sex District), Harajuku (Fashion District)
I recently spent some time iNYC, visiting friends who recently came back from Tokyo, Japan. We chatted at length about the different neighborhoods and sub cultures that are prevalent there. The ones that I found most interesting are the following:
Kabukicho sex district (Red Light District):
Vice TV Guide to Sex explores the red light district
This video is just of a walking tour of the area:
Kabukichō (歌舞伎町, Kabukichō?) is an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Kabukichō is the location of many hostess bars, host bars, love hotels, shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, and is often called the "Sleepless Town" (眠らない街). The district's name comes from late-1940s plans to build a kabuki theater: although the theater was never built, the name stuck.

JapanForum's group gallery of Harajuku fashion is gigantic, fantastic and mind-blowingly weird. William Gibson once described his "Sprawl" as being "designed by a bored researcher who kept one thumb permanently on the fast-forward button" -- Harajuku is like that, only more so.

Lightrhythm visuals artist Shantell Martin pops up on Japanese TV in this UIT Japan interview

Shantell Martin is a new VJ crush of mine, she is absolutely beautiful and her art mimics her physical being. She is innovative in her approach to VJing and brings about a freshness that is folky, fun and spontaneous. The tools she uses are relatively simple but her mind makes it incredibly expansive and breathes a life into her performances that is addicting to watch.
Her tools:
Wacom Graphire Bluetooth tablet
Sketchbook Pro Software
And of course an Apple Macbook Pro

The Rock-Afire Movie is coming!
This is possibly one of the weirdest rockumentaries, ever. A touching tale of a man, and his dream to breathe new life into animatronics. I can't wait until it's released.
Movie Trailer (1):
The Rock-afire Explosion Teaser from The Rock-afire Explosion on Vimeo.
Movie Trailer (2):
MUSIC VIDEOS with Rock-AFire performing
Electric Feel - MGMT - The Rock-Afire Explosion (I was over this song but there is something about seeing robots sing it that makes it interesting again)
Me so horny
Synopsis:
"
“The Rock-afire Explosion” is the story of a small-town car salesman, a struggling inventor, and an animatronic rock band, that quickly becomes an eccentric portrait of childhood memories, broken dreams, and the resilience of the human spirit.
With the closing of Showbiz Pizza Place in the early nineties, and the subsequent removal of the Rock-afire Explosion, a small but determined group of fans persisted with the hopes of reviving their fallen obsession. It wasn’t until 2007, with the resurgence of the Rock-afire Explosion on YouTube with songs like “Miss New Booty,” “Hey There Delilah,” and “Love in This Club,” that the animatronic band found its way back into the public consciousness. Chris Thrash, a car salesman from Phenix City, Alabama who recently purchased a Rock-afire Explosion, has led the charge with his inventive programming and clever song choice. Aaron Fechter, creator of the Rock-afire Explosion and sole employee of Creative Engineering Inc., has worked closely with his fans with the hopes of revitalizing what was once a 300 employee, 20 million dollar per-year industry."
